Sí a la Seguridad, No a los Peligros
Supporting workers' right to safe working conditions and how to get support if their employer retaliates against them.
No matter the job or workplace—kitchens, warehouses, factories, construction sites— workers have the right to be safe. But every day, many employers ask their contractors and employees to work in unsafe conditions—long hours without rest, exposure to dangerous chemicals without proper protection, broken equipment, and more.
For workers who are concerned about their immigration status or how they will support themselves and their families if they lose their job, confronting an employer and possibly losing your job is a difficult decision to consider and an even harder one to make. But workers have the right to refuse unsafe work and look out for themselves and their co-workers.
To support workers staying safe and being able to keep their jobs, ActionOSH collaborated with CUP and designer, Bo-Won Keum, to create Sí a la Seguridad, No a los Peligros/Yes to Safety, No to Hazards—one guide in Spanish and another in English.
The booklet includes information about:
> workers' right to safe working conditions
> examples of dangerous work conditions
> questions to ask when considering confronting an employer
> how to confront an employer
> what retaliation is and how to get support if it happens
ActionOSH distributes the booklet to workers during regular trainings they offer about workers’ rights and safety. They have also shared the material with other worker-centered organizations who provide similar support.
