Students explore zines as a creative tool for self-expression and civic engagement.

In the spring of 2022, Teaching Artist Jordany Genao collaborated with middle school students at KAPPA III Middle School to investigate the relationship between art, social issues, and community. Through printmaking, zine-making, and community surveys, students learned how art can be a creative tool for self-expression and civic engagement. At the end of the program, students celebrated and shared their work during a zine fair with fellow classmates.

“This project was different from a regular classroom because I could express myself more and have my own ideas.”
