NYC has the largest bus system in the country. This massive network allows residents to move around their neighborhoods and enjoy all that the city has to offer. Buses are an affordable way for people to get to their schools and jobs. NYC would not be the large vibrant community that it is without these lines of connection bringing us together. 
Unfortunately, there is a lot that also needs to be improved in our bus system. Many people describe it as slow, overcrowded, and unreliable. 
Right now, the MTA has proposed projects to improve the efficiency and speed of bus transit. But will these proposals bring about the change people want to see?
In the winter and spring of 2023, CUP and Teaching Artist Chaparro collaborated with students from the Academy of Urban Planning and Engineering to investigate ways to change the bus system to better serve NYC residents. The group talked to community members and stakeholders working on the issue and processed the information through art activities. They learned principles of photography, video, printmaking, and graphic design to make this booklet and social media pages (@whoshapestransit) to inspire New Yorkers to organize and advocate for a better bus system.
