According to the CDC’s Youth Risk Behavior Survey in 2019, 1 in 12 teens experience physical and sexual dating violence.
In the spring of 2024, Teaching Artist Shifa Quraeshi collaborated with International Community High School students to understand how young people in the Bronx are impacted by domestic violence, how social and economic conditions can impact domestic violence, and what steps we can take to address the issue and support those most impacted. To understand the issue, students talked to community members in their neighborhood and interviewed stakeholders working on the issue.
They used photography and drawing to document what they learned, and created this booklet to teach others about domestic violence, what we can do to support survivors and perpetrators of violence, and how we can advocate for ending domestic violence in our communities.
