Yasmin Safdié

Yasmin (she/her) is a radical social worker, community organizer, and educator. Her work is grounded in an anti-oppressive framework and seeks to ensure that those most affected by social injustice are centered in movements for justice. Yasmin has worked on a range of social justice issues including ending mass incarceration, anti-racism, and gender justice.

Yasmin joined CUP in 2018 and oversees our Community Education and Youth Education programs. Prior to CUP, Yasmin was the Senior Manager of Organizing and Advocacy at the New York City Anti-Violence Project, where she worked to end violence against the LGBTQ community. For many years, Yasmin organized with the Undoing Racism Intership Project which aims to collectively unite all of the NYC-based Schools of Social Work to have a stronger anti-racist, anti-oppressive lens in their curriculum.

Yasmin is dedicated to social workers understanding their role in creating systemic change and has taught community organizing at several social work schools. She is also a member at Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, where she co-founded the Mizrahi Caucus, which organizes SWANA Jews in the fight against Islamophobia and anti-Arab racism. In her free time Yasmin loves to do ceramics, dance, and hike.
