Hugo Rojas

Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, Hugo Rojas is bilingual artist and educator. Hugo has seventeen years of experience in visual and community-engaged art; and eleven years of experience teaching at middle and high school levels, after-school programs, and graduate-level courses.

Hugo’s practice ranges from mixed media street art, installations, photography, and documentary filmmaking. His work explores issues of identity, displacement, abandonment and revolution. Hugo aims to create art that engages with public spaces- specifically, installations intended to encourage people's interaction with art and their community.

Hugo is a skilled and enthusiastic educator that fosters critical thinking and creativity towards social change. His practice reflects in his exploration as an educator and artist.

Hugo holds a master’s in Media Studies from The New School and is an Adjunct Professor for NYU in the Department of Art and Professions, Teaching Artist for Reel Work Teen Filmmaking and Youth Education Program Manager at the Center for Urban Pedagogy.
