The 2024-2026 CUP Fellow for Change in Design is... Sarah Auches!
We’re excited to welcome CUP’s sixth Fellow for Change in Design!
The Fellowship for Change in Design was created in 2017 to support the work and representation of designers from historically marginalized identities. The fellowship strives to contribute to the work of dismantling systemic biases that stand in the way of marginalized communities advancing as leaders in the field of design. We’ve been lucky to work with five incredible fellows and are excited to welcome Sarah Auches to the team.
Sarah Auches (they/them) is a designer, researcher, and co-founder of TheyType, an evolving creative practice dedicated to joyful exploration in typography. With passions for art and design that work for resistance, joy, and collective power, they believe strongly in creative practices that inspire conviction and courage in building a new world. They recently graduated from Washington University in St. Louis where they studied graphic design and sociology and are currently based in Brooklyn.
“I’m so grateful to be joining the CUP team for the next two years and to have been recognized among such an amazing group of finalists. CUP’s work nourishes care and collective power in a way that I hope to embody throughout my own design practice. I feel excited and honored to be in this space with designers and organizers who are building tools of political education and community knowledge. There is so much to learn and grow in, and I can’t wait!”
Welcome, Sarah!
Thank you to the 2022-2024 Fellow for Change in Design, Yasmin Ali!
With the welcoming of a new fellow comes the overwhelming feeling of gratitude for our last. CUP is so grateful to Yasmin Ali for her time with our team as the 2022-2024 Fellow for Change in Design. We’re wishing Yasmin so much joy and excitement in what’s next for her career and creative community.
“I’m thankful to have spent the past two years developing my design practice at CUP. My understanding of civic engaged design has truly deepened and I’ve gained experience that I could not have gotten elsewhere. This role gave me the opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of a designer dedicated to social justice. I was able to participate in workshops and community sessions, and put the skills I acquired into action. I’ve been able to work alongside a team of people that are invested in the impact of our projects. I’ve gotten so much out of my time here, and feel better prepared for the work I want to do next.”
