Print Is Your Home Making You Sick?

Everyone has a right to a healthy home however not everyone has access to one. The problems of unhealthy homes affect whole communities, because of unfair housing practices, there are much higher numbers of unhealthy homes in low-income communities and communities of color. Asthma is a common problem in unhealthy homes and has higher rates in communities of color.  Breathing in pollution and allergens from tainted air in the neighborhood makes asthma worse and causes asthma attacks. The biggest risk to asthma for children—especially children of color—comes from being exposed to allergens in the home. Children of color are more likely than anyone else in the US to get asthma. What makes a home unhealthy? How are the health affects? What can you do to fix it?

CUP teamed up with WEACT for Environmental Justice, and designer Melissa Gorman to create Is Your Home Making You Sick?, a bilingual fold-out guide in English and Spanish to help New Yorkers navigate what things in your home can make you sick, the negative impacts of an unhealthy home and community, and what you can do about them.
